Welcome to Our Crafty Upcycling Journey, Now With More Birds!

Welcome to our little family project!

Did you find us because you also want to tread lightly on the earth while making or buying beautiful or interesting things? Are you here to join us on our journey as we upcycle and create? No matter what, we are so glad you are here!

I'm fast approaching middle age, and have been crafting since I was a wee lass and Jimmy Carter was president! I have an extensive collection of vintage fabric and trim, books, tins, papers, and other ridiculousness. It's kind of a lot. I'm here because I want to use some of these beautiful things I've been saving for just the right person. I'm here because I want to take this adventure with my wonderful kiddo, in this wonderful community, on this wonderful planet.

Another voice you might read here is that of a rapidly growing almost teenaged BREAD*. My kiddo has brightened my days and expanded my heart in ways I never imagined. They are incredible and intelligent and full of feeling. I had no idea the twists and turns that would come along with being their mother, but I am so glad that I am.

You may be wondering, "What is up with the umbrella bird?"

Well, the bird itself, you would have to ask them! For us, the kiddo thought that it's an entirely appropriate bird to represent the rainy Pacific Northwest. 1. Umbrellas 2. Weird.  I think it really comes down to that.

We'll probably have more bird specific posts for you.  The kiddo has done some pretty extensive research on several species. We have a small flock of pet chickens, and they'll probably make an appearance from time time to time. We'll also have lots of crafty goodness. We hope you'll keep stopping by!

“The world is before you, and you need not take it or leave it as it was when you came in.”
- James Baldwin

*when I asked for a noun that would describe them, they said "bread" and when I read the whole paragraph to them, they said I could put whatever I want, so BREAD it is.
